Accountability - Ambition - Access
Accountability - Ambition - Access
Our Vision
The three pillars of our campaign are Accountability, Ambition and Access
Step by step, we're committed to progress. While we won't promise the impossible in a year, we're dedicated to laying the groundwork for the changes Oles deserve, today and for generations to come.
Accountability
Access
Ambition
AND MORE!
We are not limiting our platform to just 2 or 3 things - We want to ensure that we reach multiple areas of the student body
Ambition
While remaining pragmatic, we are also looking at the bigger things: solve transportation, reforming housing, restructure SGA spending
Ambition
Increase DISC Funding by >15%
About
The current DISC budget is around $27,000 each academic year, however, this figure is outdated. More and more multicultural students and organisations are part of the fabric of our student body, and rely on funding from DISC to hold their events for the community. Some requests have had to be rejected due to a low DISC budget, but we will solve this.
How?
In collaboration with the new SGA Global Impact Secretary, we would hope to reallocate funding from the branch towards DISC to simply implement the solution
Beyond The Land Acknowledgement Statement
About
A land acknowledgment statement is read out at the beginning of SGA Senate meetings, is tucked away on a St. Olaf page and is sometimes mentioned in classes. If we wish to interrupt the (legacy of) violence against the Wahpekute Band of the Dakota Nation, SGA needs to continue supporting relevant initiatives and putting more pressure on college leadership with our position
How?
We commit to continuing the SGA’s support of the Makoce Ikikcupi (land recovery) Senate Initiative moving forward. We will also act as a facilitator or initiator (as needed) for indigenous students to connect with the PLT

Solutions to Course Fees
About
Many Oles struggle with unexpected, mandatory course fees that their financial aid won’t cover. These can include up to $200 for devices in STEM classes or trips to the theatre. Our administration will commit to investigating solutions that can cover this gap, so it does not negatively influence their decisions in choosing a course that they want to take.
How?
This would include advocating for this using our platform during regular connections with the PLT, as well as having conversations with Financial Aid and academic departments.
Refresh Oleville
About
Oleville has been around for at least a decade, however it is time that it receives a comprehensive update across all branches and pages. We will reimagine Oleville to no longer have outdated pages, to make it more accessible to use, and to make it worthwhile for students to access SGA through Oleville (and other platforms, digital and non digital).
How?
Working together with the SGA technology officer and a feedback-drive from constituents, we will reimagine Oleville. Just in time for new first-years and returning students to get re-familiar with it!

Bidets in Bathrooms
About
When talking to some Oles, mainly international students, they talked about a simple quality of life measure that would make a huge difference to feeling included, especially as first-years coming to a new country - bidets. While it’s not practical to install them in every bathroom, we want to trial implementing some (whether portable or not) in a couple of bathrooms around campus
How?
This would be implemented using funds from the SGA Senate Capital and Projects Fund.
Accommodations in the SGA
About
More than 900 Oles are currently served by DAC. Of course, they attend our SGA events as well. We will commit to continuing to make needed considerations and adjustments for students that request so at major SGA events. This can include features such as requesting captioning, dietary needs .etc
How?
In the 2022/2023 academic year, there was an accommodation request forms that Oles could fill out ahead of events. We want to bring this back for SGA related events, and potentially think about how we can encourage other college departments to implement it as well..

Mid-Year & End-Of-Year Reports
SGA Leaders Anti-Bias Training
About
About
Up until the 2021-2022 academic year, the SGA Admin, Branches and Senate created comprehensive reports that went out to all students at the end of each semester. This was helpful in allowing students that wished to be informed of what their student government got up to. We would love to bring this back.
We want to commit to exploring options to implement ongoing anti-bias and anti-racist training for SGA Admin, rather than one-time training. We would also look into reviewing hiring practices for Exec Teams to supplement this
How?
This would be implemented by making new members of the SGA Admin and Senate aware of a timeline to write a brief report each semester that will be collated in a document and distributed to students in a digital format.
How?
This would be implemented by working with OSA staff and the VP of DEI to explore costs of trainings, how this would be funded and supported, and what the schedule for this would be.
Initiative Tracker
About
We want to develop and introduce initiative trackers to our SGA. These are public dashboards that allow students to see how certain SGA initiatives and promises are progressing. These are metrics that could be measured. For example, these could include updates on initiatives like community impact grants given away or org-leadership anti racist trainings conducted.
How?
This would be implemented on Oleville by the SGA technology officer in conjunction with SGA Executives and Senate. Biweekly, executives and senate members send in any updates to the technololigcal officer so the dashboard can be updated. This has been implemented succesfully at other undergraduate SGAs, click the link below for an example!
